7/10/2010 Yellowstone

At nearly 8,000 feet/2438M elevation Yellowstone Lake is a high lake, but unlike most I've known, this one is not a small glacial pocket gem. Mostly we go to see the thermal "features" at Yellowstone, but this lake is a great attraction with few boaters and high afternoon winds. Ralph Roberts & I were able to launch the "blow-up brigade" for a couple of paddles. This small thermal on the lake edge has been used to boil fish still on the hook. Below the surface, many additional hot spots sputter and bubble.

This is the first pic I've gotten of a beaver where there are details like eyes. Usually these guys are motoring around the perimeter of the pond in near dark so they've eluded any descriptive photo other than a "v" coursing the water.

8,000 feet! Can you still breath? Nice pictures. I guess that I have never thought about elevation.
