Earth Day! Sedgwick Reserve

Welcome to Earth Day at the Sedgwick Reserve! What a brilliant day to begin with the last foggy mist in the air; ending with the promise of summer.
The grand valley oaks are always a favorite to photograph with their elegant architecture and the intrigue of the community they support above and below ground. Most recent oak revelation for me was to learn 60% of the tree is outa sight! Really, underground.

Al's Pals came by early for coffee and Kate's presentation on Bears complete with a projected portfolio of photos of bears in the wallows and tanks at Sedgwick.

We had lots of hikers with weather to accomodate, we just didn't have many wildflowers due to the dry year. I looked through the precip. charts in the morning and couldn't find quite 7 inches of rain this year in a quick scan.

Blue Oaks circle the valleys standing in their lacy rags (lace lichen) with fine new set of this season's leaves

We ended the celebration with a picnic, some on the patio and some under the oaks by the Tipton House.

Today I'm off to the Earth Day Celebration in Santa Barbara to help out with Nature Track.
