We're still in Terilingua, and it's in TX and not MX, but sorta hard to tell. We had lunch on a Mexican sandbar. Fortunately the border patrol wasn't there to keep us from "re-entering" the US. Our rafting trip go re-routed as the water level dropped precipitously after the Mexicans quit releasing their reservoir waters a few days ago. It was still good to be on the river, though it is small and slow.
Our guide today was great fun. I suppose she's about 30. After a dot.com stint, she started guiding trips in Alaska, then moved to BB and spent 8 years rafting and hiking, for Far Flung Adventures. She and a boyfriend live in a house where they added a rock floor (suppose it was dirt before): no electricity, no running water, heat comes from wood, though where that comes from is a mystery in this area of cactus and shrubs.
This is a huge upgrade after camping for most of a couple years. Quite a change from the dot.com years. Most interesting to hear her naturalist info as well as history of the area. Lots of mining on this west side of BB in Teralingua, ranching everywhere and some calvary during the Mexican Revolution. Guess that was sorta Border Patrol of the time.
There's a rock art location to go see before we go and maybe some other things we want to check out.
